Abu Dhabi's Trusted Curtain Shop - Tareeq Almass Curtain
Welcome to Tareeq Almass Curtain, your go-to curtain shop right here in Abu Dhabi. We’ve been helping folks like you make their homes and offices look amazing with beautiful curtains for quite some time now. Whether you need new curtains installed, old ones fixed, or something custom made – we got your back.
You know how it is living in Abu Dhabi – the sun here is no joke! Every morning that bright light comes streaming through your windows way too early, and by afternoon your house feels like an oven if you don’t have the right window treatments. That’s where we come in. We’ve seen every type of window in this city, from those huge floor-to-ceiling ones in the newer developments to the smaller traditional windows in older neighborhoods.
Our family has been in the curtain business here for years, watching Abu Dhabi grow and change. We started small, just helping neighbors and friends, but word spread because we actually care about doing good work. Now we’re helping people all over the city – from busy families in Khalifa City who need something that’ll survive kids and pets, to fancy offices downtown that want that professional look.
What makes us different? We live here too. We deal with the same dust storms, the same crazy heat, the same humidity that makes everything stick together. So when we recommend fabrics or installation methods, it’s because we know what works in this climate. We’re not just selling you curtains – we’re solving the same problems in our own homes.
The thing is, curtains aren’t just about blocking sun (though that’s super important here!). They’re about making your space feel like home. Whether you just moved to Abu Dhabi for work or you’ve been here your whole life, the right curtains can make any room feel cozy and personal. And trust us, after years of doing this, we’ve got some ideas about what’ll look great in your place.
What We Do Best in Abu Dhabi
Curtain Installation Services
Our guys know Abu Dhabi homes inside and out. From those big villa windows in Khalifa City to small apartment spaces in downtown, we handle all kinds of curtain installations. No job too big or small – we’ve seen it all.
Look, installing curtains might seem easy, but there’s actually a lot that can go wrong. We’ve fixed so many DIY disasters over the years! The wall materials here in Abu Dhabi can be tricky – some of the newer buildings use different materials than the older ones, and you need the right tools and screws or your curtain rod is gonna come crashing down in the middle of the night.
We bring all our own equipment – drills, levels, different types of screws and anchors for different walls. Our installation guys have been doing this for years, so they know how to work fast without making a mess. They’ll put down plastic sheets to protect your floors and furniture, and they clean up everything when they’re done.
Here’s what we install:
Window curtains for bedrooms and living rooms – These are our bread and butter. Every room needs different treatment based on how much light you want and which direction the window faces. East-facing windows get that brutal morning sun, west-facing ones cook in the afternoon.
Office curtains for businesses – We do a lot of offices around Abu Dhabi. Companies want something that looks professional but also cuts down glare on computer screens. We know which fabrics work best for office environments.
Blackout curtains – Super popular here because of the sun! These are thicker and need stronger rods and brackets. We make sure everything is mounted solid so it won’t sag over time.
Sheer curtains for that nice light feel – These are tricky to hang right because they’re so light and flowy. But when done properly, they look amazing and give you privacy while still letting in some light.
Motor curtains for modern homes – These need electrical connections and programming. Our guys know how to hide the wires and set up the remotes properly.
The installation process is pretty straightforward. First, we measure everything twice (measure twice, cut once – learned that the hard way!). Then we mark where the brackets go, making sure everything is level. Nobody wants crooked curtains! We drill carefully, install the brackets, hang the rods or tracks, and finally put up your curtains.
One thing people don’t think about – the height makes a big difference. Hanging curtains too low makes your room look smaller. We usually mount them close to the ceiling, which makes your windows and the whole room look bigger. It’s one of those little tricks that makes a huge difference.
We also make sure your curtains can actually open and close properly. Sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many times we’ve had to fix installations where the curtains couldn’t move because someone didn’t leave enough space or put the brackets in the wrong spots.
Curtain Repair & Fixing
Don’t throw away those expensive curtains just yet! Our repair service can fix most problems. We know how the Abu Dhabi weather and dust can mess up curtains over time.
Living in Abu Dhabi is tough on curtains. That sun is brutal – it fades colors and makes fabrics weak over time. The dust gets into everything, even with the windows closed. And don’t get me started on the humidity during summer! All that moisture can make curtain tracks stick or cause fabric to develop weird smells.
But here’s the thing – most curtain problems can be fixed for way less money than buying new ones. We’ve saved our customers thousands of dirhams over the years just by repairing instead of replacing.
Common fixes we do:
Broken curtain rods and tracks – This happens a lot, especially with heavier curtains. Sometimes the brackets come loose from the wall (usually because they weren’t installed right in the first place), sometimes the rod itself bends or breaks. We can reinforce brackets, replace rods, or upgrade to stronger hardware if your curtains are too heavy for what you had.
Torn fabric repairs – Kids, pets, moving furniture – lots of things can tear curtains. Small tears we can patch up so you barely notice. Bigger tears might need more creative solutions, but often we can save the curtains by hemming them shorter or doing some creative sewing.
Motor repairs for automatic curtains – These things are great when they work, but motors can burn out or get gunked up with dust. Sometimes it’s just the remote that needs new batteries or reprogramming. We work on all the major brands and can usually get them running again.
Hem adjustments – Maybe you moved to a new place and your old curtains are too long or short. Maybe you want them to hang different. We can adjust the length to fit your new space perfectly.
Ring and hook replacements – These little parts break or come off all the time. Easy fix, but makes a big difference in how your curtains hang and move.
The repair process starts with us taking a look at what’s wrong. Sometimes we can fix it right there on the spot, other times we might need to take the curtains back to our workshop. We’re honest about what’s worth fixing and what’s not – if it’ll cost almost as much as new curtains, we’ll tell you straight up.
One thing we see a lot is curtains that were damaged during cleaning. Some fabrics can’t handle certain cleaning methods, and dry cleaners don’t always know that. We’ve developed techniques to fix shrinkage, color bleeding, and texture changes from improper cleaning.
We also do preventive maintenance on motor curtains. Just like your car needs regular service, automatic curtains need cleaning and lubrication to keep working smoothly. We can set up a schedule to come check on them once or twice a year.
Custom Curtain Making
Every Abu Dhabi home is different, right? That’s why we make curtains that fit your exact windows and style. We work with you to pick colors and fabrics that look great in your space.
Here’s the truth about buying ready-made curtains – they almost never fit quite right. Windows come in all different sizes, and what looks good in the store might look weird in your actual room. Plus, your style is unique to you. Maybe you want something that matches your sofa, or maybe you saw something in a magazine and want to recreate that look.
That’s where custom curtains really shine. We start by coming to your place and looking at your windows, your furniture, your lighting, the whole vibe of the room. Then we sit down with you and go through fabric samples and talk about what you’re trying to achieve.
Our custom process:
Step 1: Consultation at your place
We need to see your space in person. Photos don’t show everything. We look at which way your windows face, what kind of light you get throughout the day, what colors you already have in the room. We also check out the architecture – some window styles work better with certain curtain designs.
Step 2: Fabric selection
We bring samples to your place so you can see how they look in your actual lighting. Fabrics look completely different under fluorescent lights in a showroom versus natural light in your home. We talk about durability too – some fabrics fade faster in Abu Dhabi sun, others attract dust like crazy.
Step 3: Design and measurements
This is where we get into the details. How full do you want the curtains? Do you want them to just touch the floor or puddle on the ground? What about the top – do you want grommets, pleats, rod pocket? We measure everything super carefully and make detailed drawings.
Step 4: Manufacturing
Our workshop guys are skilled craftsmen. They’ve been sewing curtains for years and take pride in their work. Everything is cut and sewn to your exact specifications. We use good quality thread and proper techniques so your curtains will last.
Step 5: Installation
We come back and hang everything up perfectly. Sometimes we need to make tiny adjustments on the spot, which is no problem since we made them.
Popular custom options in Abu Dhabi
Layered curtains – Really popular here. You have sheer curtains for daytime privacy and light, plus blackout curtains you can close for sleeping or when it gets too hot. We can make them so they operate independently or together.
Extra-long curtains – Abu Dhabi has lots of high ceilings, especially in villas and newer apartments. Standard length curtains look silly in these spaces. We make them long enough to look proportional to your room.
Heat-resistant fabrics – We know which fabrics hold up best to our intense sun and heat. Some materials will fade or deteriorate quickly if they’re right against a window that gets direct sunlight.
Easy-care options – Nobody wants curtains that need dry cleaning every month. We can recommend fabrics that you can wash at home or that don’t show dust as much.
Sound dampening – If you live near Sheikh Zayed Road or other busy areas, thicker curtains can help reduce noise. We know which fabrics and construction methods work best for this.
The best part about custom curtains is they’re made for your exact lifestyle. Got pets? We can suggest fabrics that won’t show hair and claw marks. Have allergies? We know which materials are less likely to trap dust. Want to save on AC bills? We can make curtains that really block heat from coming through your windows.
Why Abu Dhabi Residents Choose Us
Look, there’s lots of curtain shops around Abu Dhabi, but here’s what makes us different:
We Know Abu Dhabi Like the Back of Our Hand
Born and raised here, we understand what works in our climate. The dust, the heat, the humidity – we pick fabrics and install curtains that can handle all of it. We’ve lived through every sandstorm, every summer where the AC bill made you cry, every time you wished your bedroom stayed dark in the morning.
When we recommend blackout curtains for bedrooms, it’s because we know how early the sun comes up here and how bright it gets. When we suggest certain fabrics, it’s because we’ve seen what happens to cheaper materials after a few years of Abu Dhabi weather. We’re not guessing – we’re speaking from experience.
We also know the neighborhoods. We know that Reem Island gets really windy, so curtain rods need to be extra secure. We know that some of the older areas have different wall construction that needs special anchors. We know which developments have weird-sized windows that need custom solutions.
Quick Service That Actually Means Quick
We know you’re busy. Between work, family, and everything else, who has time to wait around for service people? That’s why we try to get to your place fast and get the job done right the first time.
When you call us, we don’t put you on hold for 20 minutes. We answer the phone. We schedule appointments when it’s convenient for YOU, not just when it’s convenient for us. Evenings, weekends – we work around your schedule.
And when we say we’ll be there at 2 PM, we mean 2 PM, not 2:30 or “sometime in the afternoon.” We text you when we’re on the way so you know exactly when to expect us. If something comes up and we’re running late, we call you immediately.
Our installation guys work efficiently. They don’t stand around chatting or take long breaks. They come in, set up their equipment, do the work properly, clean up, and get out of your way. Most installations are done in a few hours, start to finish.
Fair Prices With No Surprises
No surprise charges or hidden fees. We tell you upfront what it’ll cost. Period.
We’ve all been burned by service companies that quote one price and then hit you with extra charges at the end. “Oh, your walls are concrete, that’s extra.” “Oh, you want us to clean up, that’s extra.” “Oh, parking fee, service fee, breathing fee…” We don’t do that nonsense.
When we give you a quote, that’s what you pay. The only time the price changes is if YOU ask us to do something different than what we originally discussed. And even then, we ask permission first.
We also don’t try to sell you the most expensive option just to make more money. If basic curtains will solve your problem, we’ll tell you that. If you need something fancier for durability or appearance reasons, we’ll explain why. But we let YOU decide what fits your budget and needs.
Quality Work That Lasts
We’ve been doing this for years. Our curtains stay up and look good for a long time.
Here’s something most people don’t think about – curtains are an investment. Good curtains can last 10+ years if they’re made well and installed properly. Cheap curtains might need to be replaced in 2-3 years, especially in Abu Dhabi’s harsh climate.
We use quality materials and proper installation techniques. Our brackets are mounted securely into wall studs or with heavy-duty anchors. Our rods are strong enough to support the weight without sagging. Our fabric choices are based on durability as much as appearance.
We stand behind our work too. If something breaks or comes loose within the first year (and it’s not because your kids were swinging on the curtains), we’ll come back and fix it for free. That’s how confident we are in our installation quality.
We Actually Care About Your Home
This isn’t just a job for us – we live in this community too. When we do work in your home, we treat it like we’d want our own home treated.
We put down plastic sheeting to protect your floors. We don’t leave marks on your walls from our equipment. We clean up our mess completely – no leaving little pieces of plastic or metal shavings around for you to find later with your bare feet.
We also give you honest advice about maintenance and care. We’ll tell you which curtains can go in your washing machine and which ones need professional cleaning. We’ll show you how to operate motor curtains properly so they last longer. We want you to be happy with your purchase for years to come.
Popular Curtain Types in Abu Dhabi
Blackout Curtains
These are huge here in Abu Dhabi! The sun gets really bright, specially in summer. Blackout curtains help keep rooms cool and dark for better sleep. Perfect for bedrooms and kids’ rooms.
Let me tell you about blackout curtains in Abu Dhabi – they’re not just nice to have, they’re basically a necessity if you want to get decent sleep or keep your house cool. The sun here is intense, and I mean INTENSE. By 6 AM it’s already bright enough to wake you up, and by noon the heat coming through regular curtains can make your AC work overtime.
Why Abu Dhabi Residents Love Blackout Curtains:
Better Sleep – This is the big one. The sun rises early here year-round, and if you work late shifts or just want to sleep in on weekends, regular curtains won’t cut it. Blackout curtains can make your bedroom dark as night even at noon. Parents especially love these for kids’ rooms – try getting a 3-year-old to nap when bright sunlight is streaming through the windows!
Energy Savings – Here’s something that’ll save you money on your DEWA bill. Blackout curtains block a lot of heat from coming through your windows. In summer, that can make a real difference in how hard your AC has to work. We’ve had customers tell us their electricity bills went down after installing blackout curtains in their main living areas.
Protecting Your Furniture – That strong Abu Dhabi sun will fade your furniture, carpets, and artwork over time. Blackout curtains act like sunscreen for your belongings. We’ve seen beautiful leather sofas and expensive rugs get completely ruined by sun damage. Blackout curtains prevent that.
Privacy – Especially in ground floor
apartments or villas where people can see in. With blackout curtains, you can have your lights on at night without the whole neighborhood seeing what you’re doing inside.
Different Types We Install:
Standard Blackout Curtains – These have a special backing that blocks light. They come in tons of colors and patterns, so you don’t have to sacrifice style for function. The backing is usually white or silver to reflect heat.
Thermal Blackout Curtains – Even thicker, with multiple layers. These are great for rooms that get really hot or if you’re trying to maximize energy savings. They’re heavier though, so they need stronger rods and brackets.
Blackout Liners – If you already have curtains you love but they don’t block enough light, we can add blackout liners behind them. This gives you the best of both worlds – your style plus light blocking.
Room Darkening vs True Blackout – Room darkening blocks most light but not all. True blackout blocks almost 100% of light. For bedrooms, most people want true blackout. For living rooms, room darkening might be enough.
Installation Considerations:
Blackout curtains are heavier than regular curtains, so they need proper mounting. We use heavy-duty brackets and rods that won’t sag over time. The mounting needs to go into wall studs or use really good anchors.
We also pay attention to light gaps. Even the best blackout curtains won’t work if light is sneaking in around the edges. We can mount them higher and wider than the window frame to minimize light leakage. Sometimes we recommend wraparound rods that curve back toward the wall.
Maintenance Tips:
Blackout curtains collect dust like crazy here in Abu Dhabi. The good news is most of them can be vacuumed with your upholstery attachment. Some can go in the washing machine on gentle cycle, others need professional cleaning. We’ll tell you which is which when we install them.
The backing on blackout curtains can get brittle over time, especially with our heat and UV exposure. Good quality ones last longer, but even the best ones might need replacement after 7-10 years. We use brands that hold up well in our climate.
Sheer Curtains
Great for letting in some light while keeping privacy. Really popular in living rooms and dining areas. They make spaces feel bigger too.
Sheer curtains are perfect for Abu Dhabi living when you want that balance between light and privacy. They’re especially popular in the newer developments where windows are huge and you want to make the most of natural light without feeling like you’re living in a fishbowl.
Why Sheer Curtains Work So Well Here:
Natural Light Without Glare – Abu Dhabi has beautiful natural light, but sometimes it’s too much of a good thing. Direct sunlight creates harsh glare that makes it impossible to watch TV or work on a computer. Sheer curtains filter that light, making it soft and pleasant instead of blinding.
Privacy During the Day – You can see out, but people can’t see in clearly. This is perfect for ground floor apartments or villas where you want to keep curtains open during the day but don’t want neighbors seeing everything you’re doing.
Make Rooms Feel Bigger – This is a design trick that really works. Sheer curtains don’t block your view of the outside, so your room feels like it extends beyond the walls. In smaller apartments, this makes a huge difference in how spacious the place feels.
Air Flow – Unlike heavy curtains that block air movement, sheers allow breeze to flow through. During the cooler months in Abu Dhabi when you can actually open windows, this is really nice.
Layering Options – Most people don’t use sheers alone. They layer them with heavier curtains or blinds that they can close when needed. This gives you maximum flexibility – sheers during the day, blackout curtains for sleeping or when it gets too hot.
Types of Sheer Curtains We Install
Classic Sheer Panels
These are your basic white or off-white sheers. They’re timeless and work with any decor. We have different levels of transparency – some are more see-through, others offer more privacy while still letting light in.
Colored Sheers
These add a subtle tint to your natural light. Light blue sheers can make a room feel cooler, warm colors like peach or gold make spaces feel cozier. Popular colors in Abu Dhabi are whites, creams, and light grays.
Patterned Sheers
Subtle patterns add visual interest without being overwhelming. Popular patterns include geometric designs, nature motifs, or simple stripes. These work especially well in modern Abu Dhabi homes.
Textured Sheers
These have raised patterns or different weaves that create visual texture. They’re more interesting than plain sheers but still maintain that light, airy feel.
Installation Challenges:
Sheers are tricky to hang perfectly because they’re so light and flowy. Every little wrinkle or uneven spot shows. We take extra time to make sure they hang smooth and even.
Wind is a consideration too. Abu Dhabi can get really windy, especially up high in apartment buildings. Sheers will blow around a lot with open windows. We can install tiebacks or weights in the hem to control this.
Length is important with sheers. They look best when they just touch the floor or have a small puddle. Too short looks unfinished, too long gets dirty and damaged.
Maintenance in Abu Dhabi:
Dust is the enemy of sheer curtains. Because they’re light colored and the fabric is open, dust shows up easily. The good news is most sheers are machine washable. We recommend washing them every few months, or more often if you live near construction or busy roads.
Some sheers can go in the dryer on low heat, others need to be hung up wet (which dries fast in our climate anyway). We’ll give you specific care instructions based on the fabric you choose.
Fading can be an issue with colored sheers in windows that get direct sun. Good quality fabrics resist fading better, but even the best ones will lighten over time. We usually recommend lighter colors that won’t show fading as much.
Motor Curtains
More and more Abu Dhabi homes are going modern with automatic curtains. Super convenient – just press a button and they open or close. We install and fix all brands.
Motor curtains are becoming really popular in Abu Dhabi, especially in the newer developments and smart homes. Once you have them, you’ll wonder how you lived without them. There’s something really satisfying about pressing a button and watching your curtains glide open or closed smoothly.
Why Motor Curtains Are Perfect for Abu Dhabi Living:
Convenience
This is the obvious one. Press a button on your remote, or even better, set them on a timer. Your curtains can close automatically when the sun gets too intense in the afternoon, or open up in the morning to wake you gently with natural light.
Hard-to-Reach Windows
Abu Dhabi homes often have really high ceilings and tall windows. Try reaching a curtain pull cord that's 12 feet up! With motorized curtains, height doesn't matter.
Consistent Operation
Manual curtains get pulled unevenly, develop wrinkles, and wear out faster from handling. Motor curtains always open and close the same way, so they stay looking good longer.
Smart Home Integration
Many motor curtains can connect to smart home systems. You can control them with your phone, set schedules, or even have them respond to light sensors. Some work with Alexa or Google Home.
Security
When you're traveling (which people do a lot from Abu Dhabi), you can program curtains to open and close at different times to make it look like someone's home.
Energy Management
Smart motor curtains can close automatically when it gets too hot outside, helping keep your cooling costs down. Some can even be programmed to follow the sun, blocking heat while still allowing light.
Types of Motor Systems:
Battery Powered – These are easiest to install because they don’t need electrical wiring. The batteries last 6-12 months depending on how often you use them. Good option for rental properties or if you don’t want to run new wires.
Hardwired – These plug into regular electrical outlets or can be hardwired into your electrical system. More reliable than battery systems and no worry about batteries dying at inconvenient times.
Solar Powered – These have small solar panels that charge the motor during the day. Pretty cool technology and environmentally friendly. Work great in Abu Dhabi because we get so much sun.
Different Control Options:
Remote Control – Basic handheld remote, just like TV remote. Most systems come with multiple remotes so you can have one in the bedroom, one in the living room, etc.
Wall Switches – Look just like light switches. Good option if you want the controls to be permanent and not lose remotes.
Smartphone Apps – Control your curtains from anywhere. Forgot to close the curtains when you left for work? Do it from the office. Want to open them before you get home? Easy.
Voice Control – “Alexa, close the bedroom curtains.” Works with most major voice assistants.
Timers and Schedules – Set different schedules for weekdays and weekends. Have bedroom curtains close at 10 PM and open at 7 AM automatically.
Installation Process:
Installing motor curtains is more complex than regular curtains. We need to run electrical wiring (for hardwired systems), mount the motor brackets precisely, and program everything to work properly.
The motors are usually hidden inside the curtain rod or track, so you don’t see any mechanical parts. The whole setup looks clean and modern.
We test everything thoroughly before we leave. All the remotes, all the positions, emergency manual overrides – everything needs to work perfectly.
Maintenance:
Motor curtains need occasional maintenance to keep working smoothly. Dust gets into the mechanisms over time, especially in Abu Dhabi. We recommend cleaning and lubrication once a year.
The electronics can sometimes get glitchy and need reprogramming. Remote controls need new batteries. Motors can wear out after many years, but good quality systems last 10+ years with proper care.
We service all major brands and can usually fix problems without replacing the whole system. Sometimes it’s just a matter of cleaning dust out of the tracks or updating the programming.
Popular Brands We Work With:
We install and service all the major motor curtain brands available in UAE. Each has different features and price points. We help you choose based on your budget, the size of your windows, and how tech-savvy you want to get with smart features.
The key is getting a system that’s appropriate for your curtain weight and window size. Trying to save money with an underpowered motor will just lead to problems later.

Case Studies - Real Abu Dhabi Curtain Solutions
Motor Curtain Emergency Repair – Reem Island High-Rise
The Problem
Last month, we got a call from Sarah, who lives in one of those fancy towers on Reem Island. She was pretty stressed out because her motor curtains in the master bedroom stopped working completely. This was during that really hot week in July when temperatures hit 48 degrees, and her bedroom faces west – so by afternoon, the sun was just cooking that room.
The motor curtains were about 3 years old, expensive German brand that the original developer installed. Sarah tried everything – new batteries in the remote, checking the power outlet, even downloaded the app again on her phone. Nothing worked. The curtains were stuck halfway open, which meant blazing afternoon sun was coming right into her bedroom.
She called us on a Wednesday afternoon, and you could hear the frustration in her voice. “I can’t sleep in there, it’s like an oven by 2 PM, and my AC bill is gonna be crazy this month if I can’t get these curtains closed.”
What We Found
Our technician Mohammed went out to Reem Island the next morning. These high-rise buildings can be tricky to navigate – parking, getting past security, finding the right tower. But Mohammed knows the area well since we do a lot of work there.
When he checked the motor system, he found two problems. First, the motor itself was fine, but it had gotten completely jammed with dust. Now, you might think “how does dust get inside a closed motor?” but here in Abu Dhabi, that fine sand dust gets everywhere. It had built up in the tracks over three years and finally seized up the moving parts.
Second problem was the programming had gotten corrupted somehow. Maybe from a power surge during one of our summer storms, maybe just from age. The motor was trying to move but couldn’t figure out where it was supposed to go.
The Solution
Mohammed cleaned out all the dust from the tracks and motor mechanism. This took about an hour because he had to be really careful not to damage the delicate parts. He used special cleaning tools and lubricants designed for these motor systems.
Then he reprogrammed the whole system from scratch. Reset all the position settings, re-synced the remote controls and phone app, and set up new automatic schedules based on what Sarah wanted. She wanted them to close automatically at 1 PM when the afternoon sun hits that side of the building, and open again at 6 PM when it starts cooling down.
The whole repair took about 3 hours total. Mohammed also showed Sarah how to do basic maintenance herself – like vacuuming the tracks once a month and what warning signs to watch for.
The Result
Sarah was so happy! She texted us the next day saying her bedroom stayed cool all afternoon and she could actually take a nap without feeling like she was in a sauna. Her AC bill went down too because the room wasn’t fighting against that direct sun anymore.
But here’s the best part – she was so impressed with Mohammed’s work that she referred us to three other families in her building. Turns out lots of people in those Reem Island towers have the same motor curtain problems but didn’t know they could be fixed instead of replaced.
We now do regular maintenance for about 15 apartments in that building. Every six months, we come by and clean/check all their motor curtains before problems develop. It’s way cheaper than emergency repairs, and the curtains last much longer.
What We Learned
This job reminded us why regular maintenance is so important in Abu Dhabi. The dust here isn’t like dust in other places – it’s fine sand that gets into everything. Motor curtains need cleaning every 6-12 months, not just when they break.
We also learned that many people don’t realize motor curtains can be reprogrammed. They think once they’re set up, that’s it forever. But you can change schedules, add new remotes, even upgrade to newer smart home systems usually without replacing the whole motor.
Complete Blackout Solution – Family Villa in Khalifa City
The Problem
Ahmad and his wife Fatima called us about their villa in Khalifa City B. They had twin babies who were terrible sleepers, and the kids’ bedrooms were getting too much light even with the curtains they had. The babies would wake up at 5:30 AM when the sun started coming up, then be cranky all day because they couldn’t nap properly in the bright afternoon light.
They’d tried those stick-on blackout shades from the store, but they looked awful and didn’t really block much light. The nursery has these huge windows that face east, so morning sun comes flooding in. Plus the windows are custom sizes – taller and wider than standard – so finding ready-made curtains that fit properly was impossible.
Fatima was exhausted from months of broken sleep, and Ahmad was worried about his wife’s health. They needed a real solution that would make those rooms completely dark so the babies could sleep on a normal schedule.
What We Found
When we visited their villa, we could see the problem immediately. Beautiful big windows, great for natural light, but not great for baby sleep! The existing curtains were decent quality but just not designed for complete light blocking. There were gaps around the edges, the fabric wasn’t truly blackout material, and the mounting allowed light to sneak in from the top and sides.
The rooms also get really hot in the afternoon because they face east in the morning and south during the day. So the babies were dealing with both too much light AND too much heat. No wonder they couldn’t sleep!
We measured everything carefully and talked with Ahmad and Fatima about exactly what they needed. Complete darkness for sleeping, but also easy to open during the day when they wanted natural light for playing and reading.
The Solution
We designed a complete blackout system for both nurseries. Here’s what we did:
Custom-made thermal blackout curtains – We used hospital-grade blackout fabric with thermal backing. This stuff blocks 99.8% of light and also insulates against heat. The curtains were made to be 8 inches wider than each window and mounted 6 inches above the window frame to prevent light leakage.
Wraparound mounting system – Instead of regular straight rods, we used curved rods that wrap back toward the wall. This eliminates those light gaps you get on the sides with regular mounting.
Double-layer system – We installed blackout curtains plus blackout liners for maximum light blocking. Might seem like overkill, but with baby sleep, you can’t mess around.
Easy operation – Even though these curtains are heavy, we set them up so Fatima could open and close them easily with one hand (important when you’re holding a baby!).
The installation took a full day because we had to mount everything precisely. Even tiny gaps would let in enough light to wake up the babies.
The Result
The difference was immediate! The first night, both babies slept until 7 AM instead of waking up at dawn. Fatima called us the next week almost crying with relief – she’d gotten her first full night’s sleep in months.
The afternoon naps got better too. The rooms stay cool and dark even during the hottest part of the day, so the babies can nap comfortably.
Ahmad was thrilled with the energy savings too. Those rooms stay much cooler now, so their AC doesn’t have to work as hard during the day. He said their DEWA bill went down by about 300 AED per month.
But the real success was seeing the whole family getting better sleep. Happy babies, rested parents, everyone’s mood improved. That’s what makes this job rewarding for us.
Six Months Later
We went back to check on the curtains and the family was still loving them. The babies (now toddlers) were sleeping great, and Fatima was pregnant again! She immediately asked us to do the same blackout treatment in the guest room that would become the new nursery.
Ahmad also had us install similar blackout curtains in their master bedroom. He said once he experienced how much better he slept in complete darkness, he wanted it for their room too.
What We Learned
This job taught us that blackout curtains aren’t just about blocking light – they’re about improving quality of life. Good sleep affects everything: health, mood, relationships, even work performance.
We also learned that when you’re dealing with baby sleep, you can’t go halfway. Those stick-on solutions or cheap blackout curtains just don’t cut it. You need professional-grade materials and precise installation.
Now we always ask parents about their kids’ sleep patterns when we’re doing consultations. Often, better curtains can solve sleep problems that families have been struggling with for months.
Sheer Curtain Rescue – Tourist Club Area Apartment
The Problem
Amina lives in one of those older apartment buildings in Tourist Club area, right near the Corniche. Great location, walking distance to everything, but the building is from the 1990s and shows its age. She’d installed beautiful imported sheer curtains about two years ago – spent good money on them from a fancy store in Dubai.
The problem was, after two years of Abu Dhabi weather, those curtains looked terrible. They started out white and elegant, but now they were grayish and dingy. She’d tried washing them twice, but they came out even worse – shrunken, wrinkled, and some parts were almost see-through where the fabric had gotten weak.
She called us because she was about to throw them away and buy new ones, but these curtains cost her over 2000 AED originally. She wanted to know if there was any way to save them.
What We Found
When our team leader Khalid went to look at the curtains, he could see they were good quality originally. The fabric was a nice polyester-cotton blend, well-constructed with proper hems and seams. But they’d been damaged by a combination of things:
Dust accumulation – Tourist Club area gets a lot of dust from the nearby construction and road traffic. The sheer fabric had absorbed years of fine dust particles that regular washing couldn’t get out.
Sun damage – The apartment faces west, so these curtains got hit with intense afternoon sun every day for two years. This had weakened the fabric and caused uneven fading.
Wrong cleaning method – The store had told Amina these were machine washable, but they actually needed special care. Machine washing had caused some shrinkage and texture damage.
Hard water damage – Abu Dhabi water is very hard (lots of minerals), and over time this had built up in the fabric, making it stiff and discolored.
But Khalid thought they could be saved with the right treatment.
The Solution
Instead of replacing the curtains, we offered Amina a complete restoration service. Here’s what we did:
Professional deep cleaning – We took the curtains to our cleaning specialist who has equipment for treating delicate fabrics. First, a special pre-treatment to break down the embedded dust and mineral deposits. Then gentle cleaning with soft water and fabric-specific detergents.
Restoration treatment – After cleaning, the curtains were treated with fabric brightener to restore their original white color and fabric conditioner to bring back the proper texture.
Repair work – A few seams had come loose and there were some small tears from the weakened fabric. Our seamstress reinforced the weak areas and repaired the damage invisibly.
Proper re-hanging – When we brought them back, we adjusted the hanging to account for minor shrinkage and made sure they hung evenly and looked perfect.
The whole process took about a week from pickup to reinstallation.
The Result
Amina couldn’t believe they were the same curtains! They looked almost new – bright white, soft texture, hanging beautifully. The restoration cost her 400 AED total, which was way less than buying new curtains of the same quality.
But we didn’t stop there. We also educated Amina about proper care for sheer curtains in Abu Dhabi conditions:
Monthly maintenance – Vacuum them with the upholstery attachment to remove dust before it builds up.
Gentle washing – Hand wash or use delicate cycle with cold water and special fabric soap, not regular detergent.
Proper drying – Hang them up while still damp and let them air dry. Never put sheer curtains in the dryer.
Rotation schedule – In high-dust areas like Tourist Club, sheer curtains need washing every 2-3 months, not every 6 months like in cleaner areas.
Follow-up Success
Six months later, Amina called us for a different apartment in her building – she’d recommended us to her neighbor. She mentioned that her restored curtains still looked great because she’d been following our maintenance advice.
She was so happy with the result that she also had us clean and restore some other fabric items in her apartment – cushion covers and decorative throws that had similar dust and sun damage problems.
What We Learned
This job reminded us that sometimes the best solution isn’t buying new – it’s properly caring for what you already have. Many people in Abu Dhabi replace curtains every few years because they don’t know how to maintain them in our climate.
We also learned there’s a real need for curtain restoration services. Lots of people have expensive curtains that just need proper cleaning and care, not replacement.
Now we offer maintenance packages where we come clean and check customers’ curtains every few months. It’s much cheaper than replacement and keeps everything looking perfect year-round.
The Tourist Club area taught us about the specific challenges of living near busy roads and construction zones. The dust is different there – more fine particles that embed deeper in fabrics. We’ve adjusted our cleaning methods for customers in high-dust areas.
